Head Injuries

Introduction

As blood supply to the scalp is very profuse, any injuries to the scalp may result in profuse bleeding. The main first aid treatment is to stop the bleeding and bandage the wound.

Treatment

The initial evaluation procedure is the same as that applied to patients of other traumas:

(1) Keep the injured’s airway open. Protect his neck and monitor his level of consciousness.

(2) Monitor the injured’s breathing and circulation. If possible, provide him with high-concentration oxygen.

(3) Treat the wound and control the bleeding.

(4) Send the injured to hospital immediately.
