Heat Exhaustion


Movement and work under heat brings about heavy sweating. Much water and sweat are lost which leads to collapse.


Clinical Features

(1) sweaty, cold and pale skin

(2) giddiness, dizziness and nausea

(3) fatigue and sense of weakness

(4) anxiety

(5) collapse


Treatment

(1) Take the patient to a cool location with good ventilation. Remove clothes as appropriate. Wipe the patient’s body with a wet towel and fan him.

(2) Lay the patient supine and raise his legs.

(3) If the patient’s conditions improve and he is conscious without vomiting, let him drink half cup of water every 15 minutes (1 teaspoon of salt : 1 litre of water), 2 cups of water in total. If the patient is unconscious, lay him in a recovery position.

(4) Send the patient to hospital.
