Head Injuries

1. Cause

Blood supply to the scalp is very profuse; so any injuries to the scalp may result in profuse bleeding. Aim at first aid is to stop bleeding & bandage the wound.

2. First Aid Treatment

First evaluation procedure is similar to those applied to trauma casualty:

  (1) Maintain the casualty's airway, protect his neck & monitor his casualty's consciousness.

  (2) Monitor the casualty's breathing & circulation. If possible, provide the casualty with high concentration of oxygen.

  (3) Treat his wound & control his bleeding.

  (4) Send him to hospital.
