CONTROLLING OFFICER'S REPLY TO WRITTEN QUESTION
Head: 23 - Auxiliary Medical Service
  Subhead
(No. & title):

  Programme: Auxiliary Medical Service
Controlling Officer: Chief Staff Officer, Auxiliary Medical Service
  Bureau Secretary: Secretary for Security
Question : Please explain why does the estimated number of civil servants attending paramedic training (other certificate/short courses) decrease from 10,845 in 2005 to 6,000 in 2006.
  Asked by: Hon. TAM Heung-man
Reply: Most frontline civil servants in government departments, who were vested with the responsibility to tackle possible outbreak of Avian Flu, had been arranged to attend the short courses on "Infectious Diseases Control" provided by the Auxiliary Medical Service in 2005. The number of participants had in fact increased from 7 618 in 2004 to 10 845 in 2005. Since a large number of civil servants have already received the training in 2005, the demand by departments for those short courses is expected to decrease in 2006.
