The Youth Pre-employment Training Programme is a programme launched by the Labour Department. Its main purpose is to provide training for young school leavers aged 15-19, thereby improving their employability and competitiveness. In order to support the programme of the Government, the Auxiliary Medical Service has specifically designed a two-week programme for them. It includes basic first aid skills, leadership ability, discipline and team building. While trainings such as basic first aid knowledge, casualty evacuation, knots tying and skills of the application of walkie-talkie will be provided to the trainees, they are arranged to learn team building through drills, physical training and outdoor simulation exercises.

It is hoped that the trainees can learn interpersonal skills and develop a spirit of mutual assistance after completing the programme. Moreover, it is hoped that the programme can help them build up their confidence and develop their sense of responsibility. Finally, after they have learned basic first aid skills, they are capable to help themselves as well as other people when need arises.

In conclusion, we hope that after completing the programme, the youths can effectively utilize the skills they learn and lay a firm foundation for themselves, thereby contributing greatly to the society no matter they decide to further their studies or to work in future.

Non-emergency Ambulance Transfer Service

The AMS Volunteer Group' comprises of the First Aid Bicycle Team and the Community Health Education Group, which is established in the year of 2002 during the economic downturn of Hong Kong. It provides voluntary services to the public without utilizing additional Government resources. Members provide such services solely on a voluntary basis.

The AMS First Aid Bicycle Team comprises of over 1200 members (including doctors & nurses). AMS volunteer members ride bicycles along the cycling tracks at the Tolo Harbor of the New Territories East to provide immediate first aid services to the injured on Saturday afternoons, Sundays & public holidays.

On average, nearly 250 casualties received treatment from the First Aid Bicycle Team every month. Most of them expressed that after receiving the first aid treatment from our members, they were no need to call an ambulance or seek further medical advice. The First Aid Bicycle Team provides a most speedy and convenient service to the injured cyclists and helps to reduce the workload of the ambulances and the Accident and Emergency Departments.

The Community Health Education Group is led by a group of doctors and nurses. The trained Community Health Education Instructors organize health promotional activities in various districts. Volunteer members work with District Boards, schools and local community agents to arrange health exhibitions and other activities to publicize health messages to the general public. They are actively involving in the anti-smoking, sport and exercise, healthy and balanced diets as well as related health events in the community.
